FAQ #22 – Tori’s Reef

Bonaire Diver FAQ >> Uncategorized >> FAQ #22 – Tori’s Reef

This FAQ isn’t a dive guide however you should know that at times, the conditions at Tori’s Reef are affected by the salt operations.

Sluice gates can be opened at any time. This can create current in and around the channel area.

You should be advised that the moving water from the sluice can create surprising turbidity issues and divers have witnessed moving water approaching them that when surrounded, creates more or less ‘blackout’ conditions. This can be combined with currents.

If you find yourself in this position…keep calm and do not panic. It may be unpleasant but the risk of a dive problem during these times is going to be at it’s highest if you are not calm and controlled.
